6th Annual NC Youth Summit is a Huge Success / Centralina WDB Youth are Active Participants in Summit

The North Carolina Workforce Development Boards and North Carolina Workforce Development system sponsored the 6th Annual NC Youth Summit on March 30-31 at the Embassy Suites in Greensboro. The theme of the summit was “Turning Dreams into Reality.” Approximately 275 people attended the exciting event.

The youth received information on entrepreneurship, life skills and educational and employment opportunities. The format for this year’s summit was a little different. The Extreme Entrepreneurship Tour presented on day one. On day two, NC REAL did a workshop and a panel of experts on continuing education, finance, healthy relationships and transition services held dialogue with participants.

Many opportunities were available for young people during the Summit, such as voter registration, information from exhibitors such as the Small Business Administration, NC REAL, The North Carolina Rural Center and entrepreneur group Maq Gold (from Stanly County).

More than 40 youth from across the state, including youth from the Centralina WDB region traveled to Raleigh on Thursday April 26, 2012 to visit the General Assembly. The visit came about as a result of young adults desiring to have “one voice” in matters that concern their futures.

While in Raleigh, participants received guided tours of the State Capitol Building, the NC Museum of History and the NC Museum of Science.

Special thanks to the 2012 NC Youth Summit Planning Committee who worked hard to put the 6th Annual Youth Summit together. Many thanks to the following sponsors for supporting the event through their financial contributions and donations to make this event a success: Workforce Development Boards representing Cape Fear, Capital Area, Centralina, CharlotteWorks, Cumberland, DavidsonWorks, Durham, Eastern Carolina, Gaston, Greensboro-High Point-Guilford Northwest Piedmont, Region Q, Regional Partnership, Triangle South, Turning Point and Western Piedmont, and businesses representing Greensboro Embassy Suites, Tropical Fruit & Nut and Frito Lay.

What is the NC Youth Summit?
The NC Youth Summit was developed out of the idea for Young Adults from across the state of North Carolina to come together to evaluate and address statewide critical youth issues, identify commonalities, share best practices, and develop value added solutions.

The impact of the NC Youth Summit:

  • Strengthening      collaboration efforts among local areas;
  • Empowering      youth to Make a Difference in their Communities;
  • Providing      youth an opportunity to engage, listen and share youth issues across the      state, determine commonalities and differences and develop solutions as      One Voice;
  • Bringing      youth from different cultures and backgrounds together in respect to each      other’s differences; and
  • Developing      relationships to drive a passionate movement among our future leaders of      tomorrow
